Abstract
Acute-on chronic liver failure (ACLF) is characterized by sudden worsening due to an acute event superimposed on chronic liver disease and is associated with organ failure and significant short-term mortality [1]. ACLF not responding to medical treatment in early course is associated with poor spontaneous survival in absence of liver transplantation [2]. There are important differences in definitions of ACLF given by Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) and European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).
