Abstract

Now that the quality of computed tomography (CT) imaging techniques has greatly improved with the introduction of thin section multi-detector row CT scanners, pulmonary embolism (PE) is increasingly diagnosed on routine CT examinations in the absence of a clinical suspicion. This phenomenon is often referred to as 'incidental PE'. This increased detection has made incidental PE the topic of recent debate. © 2012 International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
