Abstract
We compared the rates of recurrent Clostridium difficile infection in patients receiving with those not receiving oral vancomycin prophylaxis when treated with systemic antimicrobial therapy. The incidence of Clostridium difficile infection was significant lower in patients receiving prophylaxis (4.2% vs 26.6%, O.R. 0.12, 95% C.I. 0.04 to 0.4, P<0.0001).
