Abstract
In a recently published article on the recommendation on the nomenclature for oral anticoagulants, Barnes et al. (1) suggest - based on a survey - to use the term "direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs)" and not "non-vitamin K antagonist (VKA) oral anticoagulants (NOACs)" as proposed by us (2) with regards to oral anticoagulants, such as dabigatran etexilate, apixaban, rivaroxaban and edoxaban, now introduced or about to be introduced as alternatives to VKAs.
