Abstract
Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS) is a newly discovered emerging infectious disease, which recently is epidemic in Asia. The causative agent of SFTS is a novel Phlebovirus in the family bunyaviridae designated as SFTS virus (SFTSV). SFTS clinically presents with high fever, thrombocytopenia, leucocytopenia and gastrointestinal disorders and multi organ dysfunction basically, with high virus load and high case fatality rate. SFTSV targets microphages and replicats in the spleen of infected mice, causes thrombocytopenia and cytokine storm in human infection. The tick disseminates virus to human and animals forming special transmission model in nature. Person-to-Person transmissions though direct contact patient blood were frequently reported. The measurements of viral RNA and antibodies have been established for diagnosis but vaccine and specific therapeutics are not available so far.
